Op-Ed: Indiana's Voter ID Law and How It Worked At My Polling Station
Yesterday was primary day in our great state of Indiana. I have been waiting to see how the Indiana Voter ID Law, which was appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, would work right here in our small town in South Central Indiana.
When you live in a small town, even though our family has only been here for 5 years, pretty much everyone knows everyone (and all their business too). So when I walked in someone said "you don't have to worry about checking this guy, he's a preacher".
To me, as a strong supporter of the Voter ID Law, the next line was fantastic. The poll worker said, and I quote, "I don't care if his last name is God, he's going to show us his photo ID."
My hopes are that every poll worker at every precinct in the state took the same approach.
-
Does God's voter ID have an expiration date?
-
Do you think it did what it was supposed to do?
Did it keep blacks, browns, yellows, poor people, old people and other square pegs away as was intended..?
-
Each person in the groups you mentioned had plenty of opportunity to obtain a photo ID. If they couldn't afford one they could get one for free - if they couldn't find a ride, one was provided, and finally it wasn't like this law was just passed, as it takes a day or two for something to make it all the way through the Supreme Court.
Oh and by the way, voter turnout was very good, so you decide if it did what it was supposed to.
-
Good one Pastor, thanks for letting us know the law is being implemented!
Indiana has left no room for any bullsh*t claims about voter suppression, if they do not have an idea, which as you mention, is free, they can cast a provisional ballot and have 10 days to obtain ID and go prove they are legally allowed to vote.
Those type of excuses don't work.

.... as it should be, and good to know. Let us hope all election personnel are equally as responsible .... everywhere in the USA.

I'm just curious if the law served its purpost or not...

I doubt it, but perhaps it kept ILLEGAL immigrants, convicted felons who have not had their right to vote restored, is not of legal age, has been legally judged incompetent or has already voted.
What is you have against following established law?
-
The word "anarchist" comes to mind...
-
The word "brownshirt" comes to mine...

Expanding your wardrobe from pink, Jed?

I keep remembering that the poll taxes imposed by Jim Crow, Lew; and the various rules which imposed segregation on generations of black folks were also established law...

Yeah, there's a huge frigging difference in learning from the mistakes of the past and not being able to get past them, amigo. Guess we all know which boat your bitter carcass sits in, don't we?

Picture ID to show you are indeed who you say you are is a far cry from Jim Crow or even the literacy tests administered to keep Blacks from voting decades ago, Jed.
You must carry photo ID to operate a car and show it when asked by a Police Officer.
Most places ask for Photo ID to purchase with a check or credit card or they don't accept them.
Voting is much more important that either, but you don't feel voters should show they are indeed who they say they are?
Asking for ID isn't segregation by any means, it is ensuring that those not legally qualified to vote for various reasons don't.
Don't forget the 2004 Washington State Governors race was settled by the discovery of ballots somehow missed in King County, in the third recount. Left unexplained is how they discovered some 3,000 more ballots than voters.
We also had a woman here who registered her dog as a voter and sent in ballots with only a paw mark, that went unchallenged until she told the public about it. She never voted for a candidate by that ballots, but to prove a point.
There is nothing wrong with showing ID to vote.
-
Excellent comment Lew, and with heavy turnout I don't think there are any "good" arguments for not showing ID.
-
-
All that I. D. assures is that people who do not have an I. D.--for whatever reason--cannot vote. It is just another kind of poll tax...

Yes of course, mikey. The present administration has clearly demonstrated that the mistakes of the past will not be repeated.
Hasn't it..?

No Jed, it insures that you are you say you are.
Why is it acceptable to show ID for purchasing with credit cards or checks, which protects you in case of a stolen card, but it is unacceptable when it comes to selecting who leads the nation?
Do you complain at the checkout counter or refuse to show ID to the Police when asked?

How many penis-propping, symbiont, male and female bobbleheads does one socialist need before he feels like a man?

I'm on the side of the progressives, redhawk. You seem to be on the side of the regressives; but I suppose you figure there is strength in number here on this benighted forum...

He's not interested in any sort of truth, facts, or any such, amigo. He's only here to do one thing; play the part of the bitter old grouch who can't get it up any more, preferring to make snide remarks at the girls since he can't play with them any more.

All symbiont bobbleheads should be permanently banned from the site. That includes the host organisms. When pontificating gasbags use several handles to prop the limp penis .... their words are meaningless, repetitious, self-serving drivel.
-
I'm reminded of those three monkeys pictured in the three attitudes designed to maintain ignorance--see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing.
On this forum ignorance is maintained by banning anybody capable of rational thought from posting...

On this forum ignorance is maintained by permitting pontificating gasbags to post under several handles to support their agendas. There is nothing rational about that penis-propper Jed. But, I do know your host organism loves monkeys. Maybe he has a special relationship with one. I understand the animal kingdom can be quite alluring to those unable to find a partner in the human kingdom.

I was thrown off for suggesting that the swarm seemed redolent of brownshirtism; so I'll not be going there again...
