'Bishop's List' Reveals One FLDS Member Has 21 Wives

By Can Tran     May 5, 2008 in World
Asides from the 400+ children taken from the FLDS ranch in El Dorado, Texas, there was also a “Bishop’s List” that was taken. The information on the list can be rather shocking.
On the same day of the raid of the FLDS ranch in El Dorado, Texas, a list known as the “Bishop’s List” was uncovered. The information on the Bishop’s List could be quite startling. On the list, there was the information of all the sect members, how many wives they had, and how many children. Also included was information on the ages of the members’ wives.
One name on the list was Wendell Loy Nielsen, who is 67 years of age. While polygamy in the United States is illegal, it sure has not stopped Nielsen. As Nielsen explains, he has twenty-one wives. Nielsen has thirty-six children as well. The children range between six-months of age to twenty-one years of age. Nielsen’s oldest wife is eighty-one and his youngest wife is twenty-four.
It was discovered in piles of paperwork. Authorities have reason to believe that the list has been complied by FLDS leader and convicted polygamist Warren Jeffs. So far, Jeffs is serving time behind bars. Jeffs is also set to go on trial for charges in the state of Arizona.
This list could be a valuable piece if not the key piece of evidence. Authorities say that the ages of the wives and children on the list are very crucial to the investigation. So far, the state of Texas already has its hands tied with the custody hearings for all 400+ children that were taken from the compound in April.
