article imageThree dead babies found in freezer in Germany

A German mother of three was arrested on charges of killing three of her babies and storing their bodies in the freezer for two decades.
The 44-year-old woman hid the bodies in the freezer for nearly 20 years and it would have remained there even longer if it were not for an accidental discovery by two of her grown children. The children were searching for a pizza in the freezer, when they stumbled upon a plastic bag containing one of the frozen bodies.
After the incident, the woman turned herself into the police.
The police investigated her home in Wenden-Moellmicke, east of Cologne and found two more plastic bags containing two bodies. One of the bags had a newspaper dated December 1988 wrapped around the body.
Martin Feldmann, one of the investigators, said the woman was in “severe shock” and was feeling “very guilty.” They also interviewed her 47-year-old husband but it seems he was unaware about these babies. With her big body figure, she seemed to have disguised her pregnancies to her husband and other family members.
Recently a number of similar cases have been reported in Germany, many of them from the poor eastern part of the country. Spiegel reported police discovered the dead bodies of five children in Schleswig-Holstein and three babies in Saxony.
A woman in the eastern town of Brieskow-Finkenheerd was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing eight of her babies and burying them in flower pots, buckets and in fish tanks at her home.
After these incidents, some clinics in Germany have installed some hatches where mothers can dispose of their unwanted babies anonymously.
