Australians finally confront the demise of democracy as NSW Premier Morris Iemma imposes privatization in the face of overwhelming opposition.
Ironically, in the worker’s May Weekend, Morris Iemma, Premier of NSW Australia, has finally torn down the stage props that enabled the citizens of his state to cling to the delusion that they still lived in a democracy.
Although the state’s ALP Conference delegates overwhelmingly opposed the privatisation of electricity, Iemma stated bluntly he is going to do this anyway. In other words, there can no longer be even a pretence that his government is there to implement the will of the people.
This exposes a naked corporate-state alliance and it is positioned in diametric opposition to the right of citizens to determine their future; which is as tight a definition of fascism as it is possible to demonstrate.
Unarguably, NSW is now a fascist state and, before this year is out all other predominantly hard-wired apolitical Australians will be forced to confront the unpleasant reality that so too is every other state. With all states and the Federal Government under ALP rule, and with an opposition consisting of clearly inadequate yesterday’s men, Australia is to all intents and purposes a one party state. If that notion doesn’t chill you to the bones, you are the walking dead.
Many observers recognised the absence of electoral influence some time ago but, with quite incredible naiveté, hoped that new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will steer the ship of state back onto Australia’s historic course of egalitarian justice and democracy.
With a mindset that is difficult to comprehend, these political infants are now huddled around ABC and SBS media messiahs, in expectation of thundering condemnation, and at least some reference to critics’ demands that Iemma play by the rules.
Instead, the ABC noted that Iemma
stood firm on privatisation. Not a hint of disapproval was evident; which is hardly surprising considering the position both the ABC and SBS have adopted on every issue; ranging from real national unemployment levels that are five times higher than officially stated, through to widespread disapproval of the Israeli Government’s treatment of Palestinians. 'Your ABC' is definitely not on our side.
Will presenters Kerry O’Brien or Jenny Brockie cut to the real significance of this event? Absolutely not. Their jobs depend upon their acknowledged ability to joust fearlessly with windmills, and to paint politicians only into corners with back doors.
So, fellow Aussies, we are alone.
There’s nobody up there sticking up for us. What are we going to do about it? I know the answer already. Nothing, until after Grand Finals.
