Governor Ted Strickland of Ohio initiated the Save the Dream program to help Ohioans trapped in the foreclosure crisis. Legal assistance is also being provided to families with nowhere to turn.
Governor Ted Strickland started the
Save the Dream initiative in response to the effects of the housing slump in Ohio. Shocking statistics show that in 2007 Ohio had 83,000 new foreclosures in the state.
Chief Justice Moyer, Attorney General Dann and OSBA President Ware sent out letters to over 34,000 registered Ohio attorneys asking them to volunteer, 1,100 have responded to lend aid whether it is pro bono or percentage of income.
The Save the Dream program was initiated by Gov. Ted Strickland, Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer, Attorney General Marc Dann, Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray, Director of Commerce Kimberly Zurz, Ohio State Bar Association President Rob Ware and legal aid leaders on March 13. The program also includes other services to put much needed information in the hands of those wanting to save their American Dream of a home.
Save the Dream includes the following services intended to assist Ohioans in danger of losing their homes:
*Tips on how to contact and what to say to their mortgage loan servicer.
*Information on how to contact a HUD-approved housing counselor.
*Links to local foreclosure prevention resources, such as the grass-roots Save Our Homes task forces that have been established in about half of Ohio’s counties.
*A model program for Ohio courts to use mediation in home foreclosure cases.
