In a bizarre 500-year old celebration observed by Muslims and Hindu infants are dropped 50 feet from a tower to wish them good health.
There are many bizarre customs and rituals associated with different religions, races and sects of people but this may be one of the oddest one's you've heard.
Fox is reporting that on April 29th, 2008 video footage was captured of infants being dropped from a 50 foot tower and onto a sheet during a celebration that has gone on for 500 years.
The reason they are dropped? Locals claim it is an effort to wish them good health.
Parents allow the dropping to take place and take a vow at the Baba Sheikh Umar Saheb Dargah temple, before the celebration begins.
Locals say that although it seems dangerous there have never been any accidents related to the ceremony. They also claim that of the children that were dropped from the tower as infants 100% have lived healthy, disability-free lives.
So does the ceremony work? Who knows, it appears that they will go on wishing the infants good health until one of them dies, but even then... it will just be the fault of the God's and a blessing, right?
I mean... right?
