For Windows users that prefer XP to Vista (a large group) smiles were quickly turned to frowns as Microsoft launched the new XP Service Pack 3 only to pull it almost immediately due to (you guess it). Software glitches.
Wired.com reports that Microsoft has made another 'mis-step' of sorts in their struggle to keep Windows up to date, stable and viable.
Earlier this week MS announced that the new OS update was available saying that the new update was going to provide all the Windows XP performance updates, some speed enhancements, security updates and hotfixes that have been released since the last Service Pack (2).
The update was added to Microsoft's download site and was up for grabs. And then, it disappeared. It is being said that the reason for the pull-out was due to a last-minute glitch in Microsoft's Dynamic Retail Management System application (RMS).
RMS is used by medium sized business to perform critical operations... like selling things and apparently the XPSP3 update could have knocked out your local businesses.
Once the problem is fixed the update will be reposted, until then... we'll all continue to scratch our heads and wonder how much longer it will be before Microsoft pisses everyone off and is chased out of business.
