On Sunday People Magazine was issued a statement by Miley Cyrus and she apologized for a series of playfully provocative photos that made the rounds on the Internet last week.
The 15-year-old singer said that her goal is to make people happy through her music and her acting and she said it was an honor to work with Vanity Fair and Annie Leibovitz. She told People that she thought the photo shoot was supposed to be artistic and she says she is now embarrassed.

A source who is close to the singer said that Cyrus was clothed in the photos but she was in positions that made her appear to be topless.

The photos that surfaced on the Internet show Cyrus draped over the lap of her then-boyfriend and in another photo she is seen showing part of her green bra. Bill O'Reilly, conservative TV commentator, voiced his criticism over the photos and the Jonas Brothers had some words of support.

Cyrus admits that the pictures were silly and inappropriate shots and she said she appreciates all of the support she has received from fans. She said she is not perfect and she hopes that fans and people will understand that she will make mistakes.

She goes on and tells PEOPLE that she let herself down and that she will trust her support team and will learn from her mistakes.

The Disney Channel released its own statement and said that Vanity Fair manipulated Cyrus deliberately so it could sell magazines.

A source close to Cyrus said that the singer was very excited to work with Leibovitz and her father, Billy Ray, was there all day long and actually shot as well.

For the final shoot Miley's parents were not there and that was when she was to be appearing topless. Miley's grandmother and her teacher were there when the shot took place and Leibovitz convinced them that the shots were going to be artistic and now her parents are mortified.

Cyrus was clothed under the sheet but originally she was wearing a flesh colored tank top but was asked to remove it.

Vanity Fair did not respond to PEOPLE's requests for comment on Sunday but a spokes woman for Vanity Fair said that Miley's parents were there all day and the photos were taken digitally and they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley.

It's Vanity Fair not a dirty magazine. Leave it to the media and tabloids to blow something way out of proportion. The media and tabloids are the ones who should be ashamed for targeting a 15-year-old girl and not caring about what kind of impact all this negativity will have on her.
