A 73-year-old man in Austria is believed to have held his daughter captive in his cellar for the past 20 years and he is believed to have fathered seven children with her.
Austrian police identified the woman as 42-year-old Elisabeth F. and she has been missing since 1984 when she was just 18 years old.
The situation has
been brought into the spotlight this month because a 19-year-old woman, identified as Kristen F., was hospitalized after falling unconscious.
The woman was sent to a hospital outside of Vienna by her grandparents with a note from her biological mother requesting help.
A DNA test was conducted and the test revealed that the woman's grandfather, Josef F., was also her father.
The DNA test results sparked a police investigation and it turned out that Josef F. may have actually fathered seven children with his own daughter and forced her and the six surviving children to live in the cellar of his house.
The children are believed to be between the ages of five and nineteen years old and police are now waiting around for DNA tests to verify their relationship to Josef F.
On Saturday police acted on a confidential tip and took Josef and Elisabeth F. into custody for questioning and once police told Elisabeth that she would never have contact with her father again she told the whole story.
At one point in time Josef allowed some of the children out of the cellar and told people that they were his grandchildren.
Police say that Josef forced his missing daughter to write notes over the past few years saying that she dropped her kids off at his home because she was not capable of taking care of them and that is how Josef explained the children's presence.
Police say that two of the children that were found in the basement had never seen daylight.
A source says that the man had a wife that he lived with upstairs with and he had seven other kids with her and police say that fact adds to the mystery to why no one told Austrian authorities about the man's other family living in the cellar.
I wonder if this guy's wife knew about the family in the basement and if she did she should be brought up on charges as well for allowing this to go on in the home.
