A Chinese ship that was carrying arms to Zimbabwe was allowed to dock thanks to the Angola government. Angola says it will not allow the ship to unload that weapons.
The vessel will only be allowed to deliver goods that were intended for Angola, according to the Angolan government.
The ship was heading toward Zimbabwe when the Chinese government recalled the ship after port workers in South Africa refused to unload the weapons. The announcement to recall the ship was
made on Thursday.
Other Southern African countries jumped aboard and also refused to unload the weapons and allow the ship to dock.
Leaders were worried that tensions could run high in Zimbabwe because of the weapons.
Tensions could have ran high not only because of the weapons but also because the result of the presidential elections held a month ago still have not been released.
As of now the An Yue Jiang, the ship, has been authorized to dock in the Capital Luanda and the ship is only allowed to unload items that were intended for Angola.
The ship, carrying three million rounds of ammunition, 1,500 rocket-propelled grenades and 2,500 mortar rounds, might be heading back to China.
The UK called for an arms embargo on Zimbabwe when it found out about the ship's delivery and the US urged China to recall the ship. Zambia's president was also against the movie and urged African countries to not let the arms in.
A newspaper in Zimbabwe described the country's neighbors as stooges and condemned them for not allowing the cargo to dock.
That is a whole lot of weapons and I wonder how China feels about this because I bet they are out a whole lot of money.
