A Tennessee woman is accused in the death of her husband in a bizarre case from Columbia, in Maury County. Allegations of adultery tinge this unusual case.
There is an expression based upon another old expression that goes, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me." This could have been the mantra of James and Rebecca Bargy, a young couple in Columbia, Tennessee, according to authorities. That is, it could have been until Wednesday. That's the night Rebecca Bargy, 25, bound and gagged her husband James, 29, with duct tape and left him for 20 hours, during which time he asphyxiated.
"The whole family is upset with what occurred," Samuel Patterson, an attorney representing 25-year-old Rebecca Bargy, told Columbia newspaper The Daily Herald. "We stand by the fact that this was an accident."
According to the arrest warrant, Rebecca Bargy placed duct tape over James Bargy's mouth and eyes, put a ball gag in his mouth and then tied a bandage around his head, leaving only his nostrils showing.
She also tied his hands and legs behind his back. She then left him for 20 hours.
According to Maury County Sheriff's Detective Anthony Bailey, this wasn't the first time that it had happened, and that Mrs. Barger had used the time that she left her husband bound to engage in extramarital affairs.
Barger's body was discovered by authorities around 4 pm last Saturday.
Rebecca Barger is currently in custody under reckless homicide charges, and faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted; however, the district attorney could upgrade the charge to murder. She remains currently remains in jail without bond.
