Opinion: An Inconvenient Truth for the Inconvenient Truth

This just in, the end of the world is near. Humans around the world are now on the brink of devastating plagues and pestilence; famine, drought, and mass starvation; war, violence, and death. Beware and Prepare.

Perhaps you think this is a spiritual prophecy, that the fundamentalist Armageddon driven Christian sects are at it again, but you would be wrong. The newest doomsday prophecy comes from an entirely different type of cult, the cult of Man Made Global Warming. Scientists have been pedaling the doomsday of global climate change for what seems like forever.

The latest push for warming alarmism would seem reasonable, if one did not know the history of global temperature change. What kid in school was not taught about the Ice Age and the intense warming that changed entire climates, sea levels, and land mass? However the warming and cooling cycle of Earth is being conveniently ignored by alarmists, fearmongers, and pandering politicians across the globe.

Let us go all the way back to February 24, 1895 when the New York Times published this little ditty, "Geologists Think the World May Be Frozen Up Again." In 1895 it was predicted that Canada would be wiped out and that billions would die from lower crop yields due to the impending Ice Age. The fear of an Ice Age was also reported by Time Magazine in 1923, and The New YorK Times in 1924. The reports coincided with scientists reporting an increase of ice mass in the Arctic. Fears of global cooling lasted well into the 1920's, but changed drastically in the 1930's when the global temperature raised a little less than a half of a degree.

In 1933 the New York Times jumped to report that earth was in "The Longest Warming Spell Since 1776." If you remember in 1776 it was so hot that the American forefathers were roasting in the tropical heat of Pennsylvania, swilling booze just to be able to tolerate the heat and the pressures of founding a new nation. In 1939, Time Magazine reported that scientists believed that global warming was a reality, at least for now. Again the ice mass in the Arctic was among the evidence presented. Between 1935-1945 the temperature in the Arctic was higher than it is even today.

A little less than 30 years later in the 1970's we are back to global cooling and a report in a local paper that stated “A Major Cooling Widely Considered to Be Inevitable.” Then comes 1981 and this hole in the ozone layer caused by CFC's which scientists said led to a global warming of almost unprecidented magnitude. Goodness gracious it seems scientists have changed their mind as often as They Might Be Giants changed from Istambul to Constantinople. It is now 2008 and we are surprisingly still on the Global Warming Kick, and it is getting even stranger, oh and the Arctic is shrinking again.

Our latest global warming stint can be traced back to the emerging hole in the Ozone layer caused by the introduction of man made CFC's into the air. The theory is that these CFC's eat away at the ozone layer, allowing increased solar radiation to enter earths atmosphere. The CFC's become trapped by carbon dioxide that, much like the forest of no return, allowed the radiation in but not allowing it back out into space. Thus we have the ever popular greenhouse effect taught in elementary science classes since the 1980's. The Greenhouse effect has been battled by legislation ever since that has made great strides in reducing the amount of CFC's being let into the air. This became rather embarrassing to scientists who were still reporting the trend of Global Warming despite the progress in reducing CFC's when the reality that the Greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon . So enters the fearmongering politicians and ass covering scientists of the globe. Millions of dollars, economies, and careers are now banking on being 100% correct that man is killing the planet through global warming.

Lately some strange bipartisan commercials have been popping up on American televisions. The very polarized nation is looking for snowballs in Hell ( does global warming effect Hell?) at the sight of Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich; and Al sharpton and Pat Robertson sitting side by side asking people to see what they could do to stop Global Warming. At least Newt Gingrich is honest in saying that promoting the new envirocause is great for the economy. It is evident though that millions if not billions of dollars are being made by politicians and scientists alike. Scientists have even reported being strong armed and put in place through intimidation if they put out any evidence that perhaps Global Warming might just be a natural cycle. The money made from fearmongering is staggering, but what is even more staggering is how quickly people are willing to jump on the bandwagon.

In reality this new Man Made Global Warming push is harming a very real and legitimate cause of environmentalism. No longer are people worried about the state of coral reefs because of how delicate the ecosystem is, no now coral reefs are just one more thing showing that there is global warming. Everything from famine, to disease is being blamed on the temperature trend. For example the rise in Malaria is being blamed on Global warming, never mind that it is a disease even found in Siberia and has been before the trend. No longer are people concerned about pollution, or the benefits of reducing, reusing and recycling because it is a great idea. No it is because if you don't do it you are demonic harbinger of global Armageddon and the reason Earth is now in Global Warming Hell.
