Stephen Hawking says we are not alone in the universe. There is life elsewhere in the universe but most likely they are primitive or unintelligent in nature, according to the celebrated scientist.
Renowned astrophysicist Hawking gave a
speech yesterday at George Washington University in honor of NASA’s 50th anniversary. He believes there is alien life, but he doesn’t think they are intelligent creatures; otherwise we would have heard their broadcasts in space about alien life.
Hawkins suggested the following possible answers to whether there is extra terrestrial life in space:
1) There is no life elsewhere or
2) Maybe there is intelligent life elsewhere, even if they are smart enough to send broadcasts, they may be smart enough to make deadly weapons also. Meeting them may not be a good option for humans or
3) Primitive life is common place and intelligent life is fairly rare.
He thinks the third option is the most likely one.
He dispels stories about alien abductions and said most of the claims come from “weirdos” are highly unlikely that we will ever meet those alien creatures.
Even if we meet them, he warned about the alien encounters. Since their DNA will be vastly different than us, any infected disease will be lethal for humans.
The 66-year-old British cosmologist, who suffers from
ALS and must speak through a mechanical device, firmly believes that for a human race to survive for another million years,
we will have to boldly go where no one has gone before.
Hawking compared this space journey with the quest of Christopher Columbus in 1942, when many were opposed to his trip at that time.
"The discovery of the New World made a profound difference to the old. Just think we wouldn't have had a Big Mac or KFC."
