A U.S. nationwide online poll of 2,513 adults by Harris Interactive finds that celebs have little influence in swaying American votes. Majority of voters decide for themselves.
It is raining polls. The race for political power is being played out through polls. The Clinton versus Obama tussle seems to be throwing up riches of socio-political topics for researchers and analysts. And they seem to be having a field day. In yet another "latest poll", it has been found that celebs have very little influence on the results of the ballot.

The nationwide online poll of 2,513 adults by Harris Interactive came out with this finding. This could be an ego dampener for the celebs, as nearly 50 per cent of Americans felt that celebrity endorsements of a political or a social cause did little to change their individual opinions. The poll also found that nearly half of Americans also think that celeb involvement in politics is not such a good thing, with only 33 per cent thinking it's a good thing.

Perhaps some of this perspective comes along with age and wisdom, as the poll found that younger the person, more likely is he or she is to think stars actually influence their pet cause. Here are some of the rankings pulled in by the stars - 50 per cent of the respondents thought Oprah was "very effective" at raising awareness of her causes. Bono trailed her at 33 per cent. Angelina Jolie pulled in 30 per cent, and her beau, Brad Pitt, 25 per cent. George Clooney followed at 22 per cent.

In the political ring it is Obama versus Clinton and a parallel drama is getting played out in the celeb circus with Oprah behind Obama, and Jack Nicholson voicing his support for Hillary. If the poll trends are truly representative of American mindsets then it’s safe to say, that the celebs are just filling out some free airtime. Each political protagonist has his favorite lineup of star cheerleaders. So is it just an exercise in media bantering with celebs and politicians feeding of each other and giving us something to talk about at the dinner tables? Who knows, as long as the best man (or woman) wins.

Celeb has little influence here, TV and newspapers used to manipulate the vote before, now there are too many choices. It is very hard to predict the overall mood.

Yes, and the present presidential election is demonstrating that. Issues close to a pollster's heart dictate his choice and not the celeb.

too many voters these days associate celebs with a high asshole value. I don't think people care what millionaire exloiters are saying

Celebs don't influence me either...it's hard to get on the same level with them...they've got money and I don't!

Ha, Ha well said Debra! My sentiments exactly. As it is, I guess these days celebs are too much in our faces. Overexposure has killed their value. And as we know between the bucks and the glam, their own lives are hardly as picture perfect as their photos.

It took me a long time to realize these celebs weren't anything other than rich, famous humans. They are in a league all of their own, and have little regard for people like us most of the time.

Some do...at least they spent some of their money on socially relevant causes. I can think of Richard Gere, who has campaigned tirelessly for a cause he believes in, but the majority always suck up to the powers that be.

I agree...there are some that are advocates for important causes. Leonardo DiCaprio is another...and there's a few more.
