On Thursday the investigative arm of Congress said that there is no comprehensive strategy for eliminating Osama bin Laden's sanctuary in Pakistan and the Bush administration is to blame.
President Bush can be heard quite often talking about how Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist group are a big threat to the United States and its allies and the president says that eliminating the threat is the top national-security priority.
The Government Accountability Office said that terrorists are still operating along the Pakistan and Afghanistan border and with no restrictions, despite the Untied States giving Pakistan more than $10 billion in aid.
A report, done by The Government Accountability Office, said that there is no plan that includes factors such as diplomatic, military, intelligence, development assistance, economic and law enforcement support.
The report also said that the Pakistani military is the one who is addressing the threat and that the Bush administration is primarily relying on the Pakistani military.
Pakistan has already deployed more than 115,000 troops but still has failed to eliminate Al-Qaeda and other terrorists but they have killed and captured hundreds of extremists but lost more than 1,000 of their own forces.
The defense department and some other federal agencies agree with the report. The State Department said it disagrees with it and that there is a strategy that is being implemented.
A spokesman for the National Security Council said that this is going to be a long battle and the president focuses on this issue every day. The spokesman also said that the president will continue to do what is necessary to protect the citizens of the United States.
When the war in Afghanistan first started, Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters retreated into Pakistan's unpoliced tribal areas. The United States is relying on Pakistan ti go after the terrorist networks because the United States respects Pakistan's sovereignty.
Back in 2006 the President of the United States and his administration developed plans to ramp up anti terrorism efforts in the region such as development public diplomacy but the plan needs final approval and a whole lot of money.
