A Florida plastic surgeon has written a picture book, “My Beautiful Mommy” for children explaining the various facets of plastic surgery to the under-8 age group.
Dr. Michael Salzahuer told Newsweek he was
inspired to write this book when he saw his patients coming to his office with their children who would get confused and angry when they see their mothers in bandages.
Parents usually ignore their queries or try to deflect their questions with vague answers. When mothers have tummy tucks, they can’t lift anything and simply lie in bed. Their children ask questions about it but don’t get the answers. Salzahuer instead wants to provide the answers in the form of a children’s picture book.
The hero of the book, “
My Beautiful Mommy,” is none other than Dr. Michael himself and he is portrayed like the dad in the Incredibles with sold muscle and square jaw.
The story follows a young girl with her mother having plastic surgery operations such as a tummy tuck, breast implants and a nose job. Before she goes into surgery, the mother tells her daughter:
"You see, as I got older, my body stretched and I couldn't fit into my clothes anymore. Dr. Michael is going to help fix that and make me feel better."
She continues and describes her nose job and how it will become different and prettier. With that, her daughter will be inspired and be happy and most probably follow her mother's footsteps in the future.
The book already seems to be working for Gabriela Acosta, a mother who recently had a tummy tuck. She read the book to her son, junior. After Acosta recovered, they went to a party, Junior was happy and went around to talk with others and felt proud of his mom’s new belly button and how pretty it looks.
The book also quotes plastic surgery facts like 348,000 women had breast implants and 148,000 had tummy tucks.
In the past, actresses and pop stars before were very hesitant to reveal details about any plastic surgery work they had done, but now it is like a badge of honor. Thanks to books like these, plastic surgery will become quite common and accepted.
