There have been claims made, sources have said today, that the during the campaign to find missing school girl Shannon Matthews, her family had contacted the parents of Madeleine McCann for a financial handout
According to a report from BBC News, claims have been made against the Matthews family for approaching the McCann's for money while nine year old
Shannon was missing. It has also been established today that the arrested mother, Karen Matthews was in contact with the alleged abductor, Michael Donovan, whilst the girl was "missing."
The press and much of the UK are under the impression that somewhere along the line, money was the essence of this so called abduction of the nine year old school girl who vanished when she was on route home from a school swimming lesson. Since we learn how strangely twisted the Matthews family appear to be, to ask the McCann's, whose little girl has been missing for nearly a year, for money seems hardly surprising.
The Find Madeleine McCann fund was set up shortly after the four year olds disappearance in order to keep the campaign to look for her alive. The four year old vanished whilst on holiday with her parents last year in May in Portugal. Her parents, Kate and Jerry are still, in Portuguese terms, suspects. They are due to fly back to the place where Maddie vanished very soon along with friends and family to take part in a reconstruction. Portuguese detectives have been residing in the UK over the last week to question the friends of the McCann's who were present at the Tapas Bar the night the child disappeared.
Yet going back to the Matthews family and their case for just one minute, the idea of these people approaching the McCann's for help would not have been so much of a bad idea if they had genuinely lost their little girl and they desperately wanted help and not where else to turn - we could have permitted that, yet they are a deceiving family with motives far more sinister at hand. We would also be shocked to learn that they had not even approached the McCann's as themselves, yet they didn't - claims reveal that one of the clan impersonated a freelance journalist who was searching for financial backup to look for Shannon.
The request was accepted with skepticism, but that was not the end. A email followed asking again for money, then another called speaking on "behalf of Shannon's mother," all in all, these approaches have drawn the police even further into the disturbing family we are beginning to know. Reports have even stated that Shannon has asked not to go home - we are probably not surprised.
Karen Matthews, the mother is still being questioned by police - the reports of the events which led to the disappearance of her daughter have simply not made sense. Her fate will be decided in less that 24 hours. Also, she had been reported to have said some things about her daughter around the time when Shannon went missing. These strange comments were overheard by a police officer which sparked off a different light turning on the "weeping" mother.
Her lover and step father to Shannon, Graig Meehan has remained in police custody after being arrested for possessing indecent images of children. Two female relatives have been released on police bail pending charges on perverting the course of justice. Michael Donovan is in jail awaiting his trial for the abduction of Shannon Matthews which is due to be heard on the 11th of November later this year..
