Two-Faced Baby Worshipped As Goddess

By malan     Apr 8, 2008 in World
A baby, born with two faces in an Indian village is being worshiped as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess of valor, Durga.
CBS reported today that the two-headed baby, named Lali is said to be doing well and is healthy. She suffers from a very rare condition called craniofacial duplication that causes a single head has two faces. All facial features, excluding her ears duplicated. She has two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes.
Her father, a poor, 23 year old farm worker says that villagers are worshiping his daughter as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess of valor, Durga a fiery deity traditionally said to have had three eyes and many arms. Her father says that she is "...fine - like any other child."
"She drinks milk from her two mouths and opens and shuts all the four eyes at one time," Ali said.
Every day hundreds of villagers come to visit Lali in her home to touch her feet out of respect and give money in hopes of receiving blessings.
"Lali is God's gift to us," said Jaipal Singh, a member of the local village council. "She has brought fame to our village."
Daulat Ram, the chief of the village says that he is planning to build a temple to Durga in the village.
"I am writing to the state government to provide money to build the temple and help the parents look after their daughter," Ram said.
Although the health concerns associated with her disease can be very serious her family has yet to have her thoroughly checked out by doctors saying that so far, their new daughter is showing no signs of being anything other than perfectly normal.
Other than the two faces thing...
