David Cook Of 'American Idol' Seeks Medical Treatment For High Blood Pressure

By KJ Mullins     Apr 2, 2008 in Entertainment
"American Idol" contestant David Cook was treated at an area hospital for high blood pressure on Tuesday night according to show producer Nigel Lythgoe.
The 25 year old from Missouri was treated and released from an area hospital. Medics that work at the show's studio had taken the singer's blood pressure prior to the show and told Cook the reading was far too high. They urged the young man to seek medical treatment which he did but only after the show had finished taping. Doctors gave him medication that brought down his blood pressure and he went home after a few hours.
The bartender vying for the top prize on the favorite reality show of many has been dealing with many pressures so far this season. His brother is battling cancer. At one point the rocker collapsed before a performance thinking he could not continue. He did continue though and made it through the program.
"After the show, he [Cook] was in the elevator and said he was going to go to the hospital. He said he had high blood pressure and wasn't feeling well. Now he's back at the hotel," Lythgoe said in a text message to Ryan Seacrest, who relayed the message on his radio show Wednesday.
Cook will find out tonight if Tuesday's performance of Dolly Parton's "Little Sparrow" will give him another week on the show.
