US TV hit show, American Idol has always proved to be a favourite and not just in the States, yet it was recent mentor Dolly Parton who had changed the public view on a young star from down under
It is the show we would love to hate - it compulsive viewing at it's finest, yet for one nervous contestant, the pressure to perform well has been at times, too much to bare, yet for ancient country star,
Dolly Parton, the maternal mothering side came out in the shape of something altogether unusual for her aspiring fledgling.
Last night's glittering episode of the show saw the young, and certainly visually impressive Michael John's shine like he has never done before and it was all because of Ms Partons idea of a clever piece of wardrobe handling.
The young starlet gave the viewers quite a shock performance as he donned an ascot instead of a trade tie and sung a number which showed how much the oldest contestant (only 29) could actually rock.
Johns sang "It's All Wrong But It's All Right" for the show and delighted the judges who claimed that the guy had just not cut it up until now. Yet it seemed all down to Ms Parton, who encouraged Johns just that little bit more to perform in a way that she knew the audience wanted.
It has taken Johns weeks to get this far and some would say he has been lucky to stay in to this stage, even Simon Cowell said that it truly was the best performance that Johns had come up with so far in the contest. Randy Jackson even said it was "blazing hot performance."
Yet it seemed more for Dolly than just a guest appearance on the show to help the young things along. She even said after the show that she would like to write songs for Johns in the future. She said in a later interview,
“I’m hoping he does become a star."
However, as mentioned before, Micheal Johns has been very lucky to even get this far in the contest. Being firstly compared to Doors front-man, Jim Morrison and equally tragic figure, INXS singer, Micheal Hutchinson he should have excelled from the start. Yet the two weeks previously had seen the young star to be struggle with Beatle songs - a struggle for anyone.
Let's hope this is the shape of things to come for the singer.
