article imageOp-Ed: LiveLeak, Fitna and Freedom Back Online

By Johnny Simpson     Mar 31, 2008 in Politics
'On March 28 LiveLeak.com was left with no choice but to remove "fitna" from our servers following serious threats to our staff and families. Since that time we have upgraded security measures thus offering better protection for our staff and families.'
The following is the full statement by LiveLeak upon the re-posting of Geert Wilders' controversial film 'Fitna':
'On the 28th of March LiveLeak.com was left with no other choice but to remove the film "Fitna" from our servers following serious threats to our staff and their families. Since that time we have worked constantly on upgrading all security measures thus offering better protection for our staff and families.'
'With these measures in place we have decided to once more make this video live on our site. We will not be pressured into censoring material which is legal and within our rules. We apologise for the removal and the delay in getting it back, but when you run a website you don't consider that some people would be insecure enough to threaten our lives simply because they do not like the content of a video we neither produced nor endorsed but merely hosted.'
Here's the link to the statement and the now re-posted 'Fitna.'

Also on LiveLeak, some lively and on-bloody-spot commentary on the Fitna situation from the always eloquent, inimitable and sharp-witted Pat Condell (whom I'm amazed doesn't require a security cordon of his own by now):

I have searched desperately on LiveLeak and on YouTube to find the renowned videos of Dutch people apologizing for Geert Wilders and Fitna, but to my amazement they are 99% derisive and mocking to radical Muslims. A real gem here on YouTube:

One small victory does not win a war. The security situations for LiveLeak employees, Geert Wilders, Ali Hirsi Ani and the Danish cartoonists are just as ominous as they ever were, if not more so today. And it has not changed for Salman Rushdie in 20 YEARS!
It would seem we are in for a very long battle with dark forces of radical Islam and their useful idiots and collaborators in the West, cowering and wetting their pants over Fitna and willing to make any and every concession to the bloodthirsty longbeards of radical Islam as long as the sword is not placed on THEIR throats. Unfortunately this rather large band of Quislings now includes the Secretary General of the United Nations himself, Ban Ki-Moon.
But today is a day of victory. A more definitive statement could not be made. To me, this is akin to the American bombing of Tokyo by Doolittle's Raiders six months after Pearl Harbor. At that time, the Japanese Empire had been expanding their brutal reign throughout the Western Pacific without relent and even threatened Australia with invasion. But as heartening a victory as Doolittle's Raid was, the battles of Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Iwo Jima still lay ahead.
Kudos to LiveLeak, Geert Wilders, and all you out here in the ether who have encouraged me and millions like me beyond measure with your support, your eloquent defiance and even your righteous anger at the unprecedented assault upon our freedoms by those within Islam who demand respect above all else, yet respect no one and nothing in return, not even the lives of fellow Muslims, and whose only answer to fear-inspired self-censorship and cowardly kowtowing to Islamist demands is always more of the same.
Peace and Freedom to you all. LONG LIVE LIVELEAK!!!
