Analyst: Apple will sell 45 million iPhones next year
by Chris V. Thangham.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster predicted iPhone would sell 45 million iPhones even before the iPhone was release and he is now claiming that iPhone will launch a 3G version phone next quarter as well as a lower price iPhone by early next year.
Apple had sold about
5 million iPhones six months after its launch in June last year and has a goal to reach 10 million iPhones by 2008.
Gene Munster however thinks that they may outsell that figure by 4.5 times.
Munster says iPhone will release a
3G version phone in either the second or third quarter. If so, it will become more popular worldwide especially in Europe. He also said Apple will release a low-end iPhone in the price range of $200 to $300 early next year.
Munster also thinks Apple will be very vigorous outside the U.S. and will introduce the iPhone in more countries, doubling its current market share. And with its
iPhone SDK kit, Apple will be able to get more developers to create custom games and applications for iPhone. That will attract more buyers.
He predicts, with all these choices, Apple will reach 45 million iPhone sales easily.
Apple, however, has not made any announcement regarding 3G and lower-priced iPhones.
Whether it will reach this figure or not, Apple will boost its revenues significantly.
