Unmarked Police Car Chase Kills One And Severely Injures Four More

by Michelle Duffy.
A woman has died after her car was hit by Mercedes in east London. The police had been chasing the Mercedes when it crashed into several other cars also injuring four people. One man has suffered massive head injuries
Ambulances and police attended a fatal crash yesterday in the Bethnal Green area of east London which was the result of a police pursuit.

The unmarked police vehicle had been chasing a black Mercedes when the car crashed into several other vehicles including a Vauxhall Corsa in which a young girl and two adults had been travelling. It was the woman in the Corsa who died.

The Mercedes crashed into the other cars the unmarked car turned on it's hidden blue lights. The Mercedes gained speed then shortly after, crashed into the cars killing one person and several injuring four others.

The two occupants in the black Mercedes fled from the scene of the accident.

A man with "life threatening" head injuries was taken to the Royal London Hospital along with the girl from the Corsa.

Others were taken to the Homerton Hospital with less severe injuries.

It is thought around six vehicles were involved including a 4x4 and two London taxis. A full investigation into the chase and the accident will be undertaken by Scotland Yard's Department of Professional Standards. It is yet to be determined as to whether the crash could have been avoided if the unmarked car had hidden it's identity.

A photograph of the wrecked car in which the woman died, can be found here.
