article imageOp-Ed: Rioting In Karachi, Death Threats At LiveLeak. FITNA pulled

By Johnny Simpson     Mar 29, 2008 in Politics
Has FITNA become a self-fulfilling Prophecy? The British website LiveLeak has removed Geert Wilders' controversial short film FITNA due to "threats to our staff of a very serious nature."
The British website Liveleak, widely known as a last bastion of truly free expression on the web, has removed Geert Wilders' short video FITNA and released the following explanation:
"Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers."
"This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one."
"Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one another's culture. We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high."
A sad day for freedom indeed. LiveLeak was and is perhaps the premiere website in the world for 'extreme free speech,' be you Nazi jackboot, Islamic jihadi or anyone in between, and FAR freer than the timid US-based YouTube and Network Solutions, which pulled the Fitna website before there was even ANY CONTENT!
I have yet to investigate the British media's culpability in this regrettable situation, but knowing the UK tabloids as I do I fully expect to be completely revolted. Did they provide home or business addresses, as the New York Times provided of Ashley Dupree in the heat of the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal? If not, it appears that the British media has played SOME part in this disgraceful episode. More to come as the story develops.
What have we come to? The extremists of Islam and their useful idiots in the West tie us up in knots of political correctness to where we must dance around radical Muslim sensibilities as if in a minefield, while they are free to trample our religions, our customs and most important, our precious freedoms for which so many generations have spilled oceans of blood and treasure to acquire, establish into law, preserve and maintain.
I speak not of all Muslims. I know that most seek better lives than the ones they left behind in some of the darker corners of this planet like Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and yes, Sudan. I believe they did not flee the oppression of their homelands merely to find themselves once again living under the threat of the sword, the bullet and the bomb by Islamofascists whose ultimate dream of world conquest and Islamist rule would make the Nazis look benevolent by comparison. Moderate Muslims don't want that vicious and despotic theocratic rule any more than we do. Most of them have lived it and have no desire to repeat their experiences, especially in Western democracies they once looked upon from afar as the shining beacons of liberty and last best hopes of mankind.
Nor do I blame LiveLeak. Unlike most head cases in the West, Muslim extremists have a nasty way of following up violently on even the most unbelievably petty of grievances, as proven by the recent jihadi assassination attempt against Kurt Westergaard, the Danish cartoonist who drew the infamous 'Mohammed Turban Bomb' illustration. The most fearsome reminder of all, on the personal level, was the butchering of filmmaker Theo van Gogh in the streets of Holland by a radical jihadi whose only regret is that he is not free to butcher again. I don't believe we need to rehash the much larger events such as 9/11 here. They must be stopped at all costs, or our streets will resemble Karachi's or Baghdad's sooner than later. Some already have, and worse. NO MORE!
How much longer are we going to just sit back and take this insanity? How much longer must we live in fear or mortal terror for even the words we speak or the videos we upload? When will we stand up for the freedoms and liberties we hold so dear, such as the freedom we have to speak here in this and many other forums without intimidation or fear of reprisal? NO MORE!
We must fight them on the street corners of the West, where they rant and rail and threaten us by bullhorn with even more mayhem, beheadings and violent death. We must fight them in the courtrooms where they seek to intimidate and shackle THROUGH OUR OWN LEGAL SYSTEMS the free thinkers with whom they disagree and whom are guilty of nothing more than speaking their minds, satirizing their religion with cartoons or even condemning it with damning videos like FITNA.
We must especially fight them in the specific schools, mosques and madrassas in the West where radical hate of all the things we love are poisoning young minds before they can barely even think. The Religion of Freedom overrides Freedom of Religion when elements of that religion threaten us all, both small and great. Most important, we MUST have the proactive support of the truly moderate Muslims who detest these affronts as much as we do. Or more, considering the violence, death and hate being condoned in the name of their sacred Allah (PBUH).
If Christians in the West can, must and HAVE learned to tolerate such sacrilege and blasphemies against our religions as the Piss Christ and Elephant Dung Mary without resorting to intimidation, death threats and violence then so must they, or they can no longer be a part of our societies. That is Equality. That is Freedom. That is Justice. That is the Rule of Law. I will NOT live under the rule of Sharia and arbitrary and capricious radical 'Imams' whose bread and butter is our poison and our doom. OVER MY DEAD BODY!
I will be reporting much more on this stunning development, as I'm sure many of you will be. In the meantime, I leave you with the words of American Patriot and Revolutionary Thomas Paine, from his enduring masterpiece 'Common Sense.' Sad day indeed.
"These are the times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value."
