Consumers can feel safer as they go to buy their milk at Walmart. On Thursday, Walmart said that their milk will be sourced from cows that have not been treated with artificial growth hormones, like recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST).
Los Angeles - The retailer's private-label
Great Value milk is now coming from sources that do not use the artificial growth hormone recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST). The Sam's Club chain will also be offering the same milk.
Walmart is buying their milk from suppliers who
have pledged not to treat their cows with rbST.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has tried to reassure consumers that milk from cows that have been treated with the rbST, poses no risk to humans, many customers aren't so accepting.
What rbST is:
...a synthetic form of bovine growth hormone (BGH) that can increase milk output from cows. Recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) is a synthetic duplicate of BGH that is a natural protein supplement in cows. BGH can be found naturally in milk.
It is because of customer requests, Walmart has made the change.
Kudos to Walmart for listening.
