Op-Ed: Would-be Commander-in-Chief Says 'We cannot win' the War in Iraq

by okieboy.
Hillary is fond of saying that she is ready to hit the ground running if she is elected President but it seems the more accurate term would be to say that she is ready to hit the ground running.....away.
Rueters reported today that Hillary Clinton asserted that the Iraq war would further stain an already faltering economy and argued that it is not wise to spend such large sums of money on a war "we cannot win."

Her remarks come during a week that coincides with the fifth anniversary of the invasion into Iraq. She claimed that the war had weakened us both militarily and economically as well as having taken the lives of some 4000 brave Americans and left thousands more wounded.

"Our economic security is at stake," she said. "Taking into consideration the long-term costs of replacing equipment and providing medical care for troops and survivors' benefits for their families, the war in Iraq could ultimately cost well over $1 trillion."

Newsmax reports that she attacked John McCain, saying he supported the Bush policy which could keep us in Iraq for as long as 100 years.

Hillary stated the following: "They both want to keep us tied to another country's civil war, a war we cannot win. That in a nutshell is the Bush/McCain Iraq policy. Don't learn from your mistakes, repeat them."

She added:
Senator McCain and President Bush claim withdrawal is defeat. Well, let's be clear, withdrawal is not defeat. Defeat is keeping troops in Iraq for 100 years.
McCain responded, saying:
"All I can say is that this will be a big issue in the election as we approach November because at least a growing number of Americans, though still frustrated and understandably so, believe that this strategy has succeeded,"

Commenting on Hillary's claim that she would start to bring the troops home within 60 days of taking office, McCain said:
"I just think what that means is al Qaeda wins."

Regardless of whether or not you agree with the premise for going into Iraq, the fact is that we are there and we must finish the job that we started. For Hillary Clinton, a person with the goal of becoming Commander in Chief, to say that our military can not win, is an outrage. This statement should enrage all Americans. If the full fury of the US military was unleashed, no foe in the world could withstand it. The US military does not lose...politicians do however, sometimes prevent it from achieving full victory.
