Kremlin security service, the guards for the Russian President, is seeking a tender for 3,200 white mice from international sellers. Observers are wondering why they need mice, and whether it will be used for hunting or scientific research purposes.
The Kremlin security service consists of elite troops and former spies, who protect Russian President Vladimir Putin. The secret service has posted this tender at their site and wants the seller to
offer mice with the following specifications:
Quantity: 3,200 White Mice.
Sex: Female only.
Weight: 18 grams maximum weight.
Countries like Britain, which is one of the places the security service seeking the mice from, is baffled with this query. If you are protecting the President, why would you need so many female white mice?
An official from the service refused to speculate why they need this particular mice. The Russian media have speculated that the mice might be used to test toxic substances or to detect the presence of dangerous gases.
The latest update at the security service site has shown that they have found a supplier and will pay 475,776 Rubles ($20,080) for 3,200 mice.
It is a strange request, and I hope the Russians use this for altruistic purposes and not for some bizarre experiments.
