Yesterday morning, Amy Lindsay was on her way to her class at a local BOCES and found her estranged husband there waiting for her. He rammed her minivan several times until it rolled onto its side, then pulled his wife through the broken windshield.
Coopers Plains, NY - Yesterday morning, Amy Lindsay, 35, was on her way to her adult class at the local BOCES campus here, when she was allegedly rammed by her husband who was driving a U-Haul truck. He continued ramming the minivan until it rolled onto its side at the entrance to the campus. (Photo here.)

Rick Lindsay then approached the minivan and pulled his wife through the broken windshield and began hitting her with the butt end of an assault rifle. (Photo of Lindsay.)

Initially, witnesses thought it was an accident. Two BOCES staff members and an on-sight NYS Trouper ran to assist. Principal Sam Gauss told Officer Stickler that the subject has a gun, at which point, Officer Stickler drew his own weapon. It's reported that Lindsay did aim the rifle at the arriving individuals but no shots were fired.

BOCES' internship coordinator Scott Poley tackled Lindsay and got him to the ground. Gauss, Poley and Stickler proceeded to wrestle the gun away from Lindsay. Rick Lindsay was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital.

Rick Lindsay told the arresting officers that he's a heroin addict and was "coming down or tweaking" when he attacked his wife. Amy Lindsay did have an order of protection against him.

It's thought that this attack was carefully planned.
“It was obvious,” one student said, asking she not be identified. “He was intending to kill her.”

State police spokesman Sgt. James F. McCormack's response to whether the attack might have been planned said,
"I would guess so, based on the fact the he rented the truck and waited down the road for her."

Adding,
"I think he was coming here to kill her and would have killed anyone else he came in contact with," McCormack said.

During the scene investigation, police found a second rifle and "sizeable amount of ammunition" in the back of the rented truck.

Amy Lindsay was taken to Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira and received treatment for cuts, bruises and a broken arm. While she is there, she is under police protection and is listed in stable condition.

Here the story gets darker.

Rick Lindsay was arrested earlier in 2008 on molestation charges against boys of various ages. He has been charged with 68 counts of child sexual abuse involving children under the age of 17, from 2000 to 2007. He was released Jan. 28 on a court order, after posting $50,000 bail.

Police say that the reason Lindsay attacked his wife is because she was testifying in a different criminal case against him.

Richard Lindsay was acquitted of a murder charge in the City of Rochester in 1986

Sunday, March 16: Update:

Neighbors in North Hornell are shocked to learn a man facing dozens of sex crime charges lives only a few doors from them.

Many are even more shocked to find that he lived only houses away, and that he was near where there are many children.

UPDATE:

For the second Monday in a row, Lindsey's lawyer failed to show up for court on his arraignment charges. The lawyer in question is J. Michael Chamblee of Rochester. There are discussions going on that indicate a change of lawyers is probable, and that it will be one locally.
