A man wanted to impress his girlfriend by putting an engagement ring in a balloon and let her pop the balloon after he proposed, but it ended up a nightmare when the balloon flew away with a gust of wind.
Lefkos Hajji of Hackney in east London saved up money to get the prized $12,000 (6,000 pounds) engagement ring for his girlfriend Leanne, 26. He wanted to impress her with a novel wedding proposal.

At the jeweler shop, he put the ring in a helium balloon so that his girlfriend can pop the balloon to find it once he proposes to her. But sadly for him as he came out of the shop, a strong gust of wind pushed the balloon to the sky and he watched it helplessly fly away into the sky.

He told the Sun newspaper:
I couldn’t believe it…I just watched as it went further and further into the air…I felt like such a plonker. It cost a fortune and I knew my girlfriend would kill me.

Hajji chased after the balloon for two hours without any luck. He went back home and told Leanne, who became upset as he expected.

Hajji told The Sun:
I thought I would give Leanne a pin so I could literally pop the question…But I had to tell her the story -- she went absolutely mad. Now she is refusing to speak to me until I get her a new ring.
He still hopes some one will find the ring and return it back to him.

I hope Leanne forgives him because it's the thought that counts, right?
