Close to 800 small breed dogs, including Pomeranians, Chihuahuas and Terriers were taken from a Northwest Tucson, AZ mobile home. The home was covered in urine and fecal matter and few of the animals were missing paws.
A report over a shocking find in Arizona said that 796 dogs were seized from an elderly couples home on Monday and Wednesday of this week. This was largest number ever taken on record in Arizona.
Despite the 800 small breed dogs being crammed into a triple-wide mobile home in horrific sanitary conditions, the animals appeared to be in good shape and had enough food.
The Pima County Sheriff's Sgt. James Ogden said of the situation:
"horrible, filth everywhere ... probably one of the worst (situations) I've ever seen."
All of the dogs will need to be examined by a vet and have their shots before they can be placed for adoption. Breeds found on the property were Chinese Crested, Lhasa Apso, Chihuahuas, Pomeranian and Terrier.
This is being treated as a breeder turned animal hoarder case, where elderly individuals feel that they cannot find homes good enough for their animals and end up trying to take care of them. This couple admits that they had become overwhelmed and are currently cooperating with authorities.
No charges have been filed against the elderly couple.
A rescue group from Phoenix has taken 100 of the dogs.
82 parrots were also taken from the property.
