Op Ed: Beware of Lazy, Sloppy, Agenda-Driven News Reporting
by okieboy.
The following article describes just one of many misrepresented news stories that, once reported, spawn several other equally inaccurate stories. This example illustrates the laziness and lack of research that is all too prevalent in the media.
Last week, nationally syndicated radio and cable talk-show host
Glenn Beck, was the subject of several ridiculously non-news stories because of a question he asked of a guest, in an obvious attempt to illustrate absurdity by being absurd.
While interviewing Pastor John Hagee, Beck asked the pastor what he thought of the suggestion by some that Barack Obama might be the anti-Christ. It should have been obvious to anyone with half a brain that Glenn was not being serious when he asked the question.
In an article posted on his home page today, Beck points out that
Newsbusters got it right but
Think Progress,
Media Matters, Keith Olbermann and the
New York Times all missed the boat on this.
The most amusing thing is that Beck actually predicted this would happen as indicated by the following show transcript excerpt:
GLENN: By the way, this is all going to be transcribed by Media Matters today as a completely dead serious conversation.
GRAY: I know, I know.
GLENN: It's going to be great. There are going to be media alerts: Glenn Beck announces Obama is the antichrist. You watch. It's going to be everywhere. (Laughing.).

Regardless of whether your preferred news source is CNN, MCNBC or FoxNews, don't accept everything your hear as the gospel...do a little research and decide for yourself.
