According to the Red Cross, more than 43,000 pints of blood are donated each day by Canadians and Americans, helping 4.5 million patients who need blood transfusions. Yet shortages still occur and acompany now wants to solve this problem via Facebook.
Red Cross does a great job getting blood donations by hosting special events and collecting blood from volunteers, but it doesn’t have an on-demand network for blood donations.

Takes All Types (TAT), a non-profit organization wants to solve that problem by working with a large social networking site like Facebook.

With this application on Facebook, TAT signs up blood donors and ask them what type of blood they have and how frequently they will be willing to donate it (every 57 days, 1 year or 2 years), and how they would like to be contacted when they need blood near their area.

TAT hopes more people will get involved with this application and help their local and national blood demand..

Some of their goals are:

1.) Extend this for organ donation and voting purposes.
2.) Help the local Red Cross and other charities organize blood drives.
3.) Expand this service for websites, MySpace and other networks.

If you have a Facebook account and would like to donate blood, you can enroll in TAT here.
