Silver Star Awarded to Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown

For actions Above and Beyond the Call of Duty, Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown of the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, has been awarded the Silver Star, joining one other since WWII, Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester.
During a battle in the province of
Paktia in Afghanistan, Brown, without consideration of her own security and potential loss of life, rushed to the scene of a burning Humvee to rescue and treat her wounded fellow Soldiers.
A roadside IED tore through a supply convoy and while mortar and small arms fire was directed at the halted convoy, Spc. Brown grabbed her aid bag and rushed to the scene. She didn't know what to expect but there were wounded to treat and to evacuate to a safe llocation.
[...] "I did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there," Brown told The Associated Press on Saturday at a U.S. base in the eastern province of Khost. [...]
