Mass grave discovered in Iraq

by Fortunesfool.
While Iraq may have slipped out of the headlines, as the fifth anniversary of its 'liberation' approaches, there are continuing signs that stability is still a long way off. Case in point: a mass grave recently found in the Diyala province.
The discovery of a mass grave, holding an estimated 100 bodies, has been reported in an orchard in Iraq's Diyala province, just north of Baquba. It was found on Saturday by U.S. and Iraqi forces which were conducting an joint operation in the area.

Maj. Brad Leighton told CNN :
The skeletal remains appear to have been in the grave for a long time, and we have not yet determined who might be responsible for their death and burial.
Meanwhile, thousands of people took part in a demonstration in the southern city of Basra demanding better security and protection from crime. Its security council laid the blame for increased lawlessness at the door of the central Iraqi government which is still fighting to establish any sort of hold over the entire country.

The protesters were concentrating their criticism on the Police Chief, Gen. Abdul Jalil Khalaf who they say has failed to get a grip on spirialling kidnapping, thefts and assassinations.
