Bombs seem to be the order of the day. A dorm at UC Davis was evacuated early Thursday morning after explosive chemicals was found inside one of the rooms. One student has been arrested in the case.
Hazmat crews from both the UC police and fire departments were on the scene. In addition ATF and bomb squads from Sacramento and Yolo County were investigating.
Eight buildings in the Tecero complex have been cleared of the residents, about 480 students. The students not leaving campus for friends and family have camped down in the dining hall.
If the chemicals are stable the will be disposed of in Sacramento. If they are determined not stable enough to move they were be detonated on an athletic field at the campus.
The call came in last night around 9 p.m. with an anonymous tip that a student living in Tercero Hall had an explosive device.
Police investigating had the making devices of a pipe bomb. They quickly cleared the building of the roughly 480 students and several of the other nearby dorms.
19 year old Mark Christopher Woods has been arrested. He resided in the dorm room in question. He is facing charges of possession of explosive devices which is a felony. At this time the origins of the chemicals has not been discovered. Those investigating are not certain what the intentions for those chemicals were at this time.
