article imageEmergency Landing After Eight Became Ill On Flight

By KJ Mullins     Mar 5, 2008 in Travel
Eight ill passengers on route to Canada from the Dominican Republic caused Air Transat Flight 477 to make an emergency landing at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
The passengers had been in Punta Cana before the flight and were returning home to Canada. The eight had multiple symptoms that required medical attention. After the remaining passengers were evaluated the flight continued on to Edmonton, Alberta.
The sheriff's office alerted local health authorities, the CDC, the sheriff's office's homeland security unit and federal customs officials after eight passengers came down with an unknown illness on board the Airbus A310.
The airline specializes in flights from Canada to warm vacation spots. During the winter most of the flights involve the Caribbean and the United States.
The eight that fell ill were taken to hospital in Fort Lauderdale. While not confirmed it appears that their illness stems from something they ingested. More details will follow as they become available.
