It is being reported that Brett Favre, the future Hall of Fame quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, told his team just days ago that he has decided to retire after a 17-year career.
It appears Brett Favre's career in football is officially over.
NBC Sports is reporting that Favre told the Packers just days ago of his decision but as of yet the news has not been made public via an announcement of any kind.
Favre, who is now 38, has talked about retiring for the last few years after less than stellar seasons with his team. After 2006, many expected Favre to retire but he said he saw encouraging signs in the Packers' team and decided to stay and continue to play.
The next season he led the Packers to a 13-3 season and carried a quarterback rating of 95.7, his best in 11 seasons.
Favre is the only three-time MVP (Most Valuable Player) in NFL history and is the all-time passing completions leader with a staggering 5,377 completed passes to receivers.
Fox Sports says that the choice to retire is official, barring any "last minute changes of mind."
With Favre gone, the Giants will likely turn to Aaron Rodgers, a first- round draft pick who has had little time to play due to the fact that Favre is well... Brett Favre. You can believe Rodgers has some big shoes to fill.
Favre definitely had an amazing career and his name has become synonymous with Packers football. If this truly is the end of his football career... well it's one he can be proud of.
