TORONTO, ONTARIO - North- and South-bound traffic came to a standstill because a man threatened to blow himself up in his car when the next tanker truck drove by him. He had propane tanks taped together inside his car and he parked near a gas station.
Police
were called to the scene Monday night around 10:30pm after a 911 call was made by a man, known to police, threatening to detonate a bomb inside his car.
They shut down the highway in both directions near Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan. The
York Region Emergency Response Unit and also the Toronto police Emergency Task Force bomb squad arrived on the scene. A robot was used to approach the car.
The man was arrested about three hours later after he gave himself up. His car was seized and the highway was reopened.
My husband was among those stuck on the highway heading North from 10:30pm until 1:30am when he called to say King's Road off-ramp was now opened after the man surrendered to police around 1 a.m.
