TORONTO, ONTARIO - North- and South-bound traffic came to a standstill because a man threatened to blow himself up in his car when the next tanker truck drove by him. He had propane tanks taped together inside his car and he parked near a gas station.
Police were called to the scene Monday night around 10:30pm after a 911 call was made by a man, known to police, threatening to detonate a bomb inside his car.

They shut down the highway in both directions near Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan. The York Region Emergency Response Unit and also the Toronto police Emergency Task Force bomb squad arrived on the scene. A robot was used to approach the car.

The man was arrested about three hours later after he gave himself up. His car was seized and the highway was reopened.

My husband was among those stuck on the highway heading North from 10:30pm until 1:30am when he called to say King's Road off-ramp was now opened after the man surrendered to police around 1 a.m.

Brandigal (Donna) first it is good to "see" you as it's been a long time. Hope that you are well.

I am glad that everything ended well and that no one was hurt. Hopefully the man will get some help so that he won't repeat this type of incident again.

Thanks Cynthia, I hope they get him some help as well. And yes I am thankful no one was hurt. My husband had a very long night on the highway in his car.

This was a wild story. First, there were thousands of cars stuck on this bloody highway, it was cold and how many ran or were close to running out of gas? Too bad hubby got stuck in this mess, what a nightmare three hours in the middle of the night just stuck doing nothing, then having to get home. I also heard they "jackknifed" two tractor trailers across the highway so that the guy could not drive away with the alleged bomb. Speaking of which, was there a bomb?

Good to see you posting Brandigal, hope you and your family are doing OK.

To bad for your husband and all those stuck on the highway for so many hours.

My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother.
My mother has been gone for five years now. I still miss her and many times I would like to tell her something that has happened.

Unbelievable. This man got a few hours of fame by messing-up everyone else's commutes...wow. I'm glad that he did not blow himself up...otherwise your hubby and all those others on that roadway could have still been tied-up for several more hours...

Good to know too that your hubby and everyone else weren't harmed.

It is good that they were able to get him before he hurt himself or anyone else.
I do believe he did not want to harm himself, it was a cry for help because he did call it in himself.
