In our world's movement towards eco-friendliness, it is important to highlight what urban areas are considered some of the greenest to live in . Two large California cities have made that list.
San Francisco and Oakland- two of California's most populist cities- have made the list of the
top 50 greenist cities in America.
According to the rankings compiled with Census Bureau data and information from the National Geographic Society, Oakland placed fourth on the list and San Francisco is actually the second greenist city in America. San Fran achieved a score of 23 out of 30, largely due to clean transportation and the amount of people who walk or bike to work.
The mayor, Gavin Newsom, was proud that his city made such a high ranking.
"San Francisco's environmental accomplishments continue to take national center stage, and this ranking reflects our leadership," said Mayor Gavin Newsom.
"With more innovation, and continued expansion of our greening and sustainability efforts, I have no doubt that next year San Francisco will be at the top of the list," he added.
Berkeley also made the top ten.
