An Israeli Minister of Parliament is blaming the country's tolerance of gays for the earthquakes in the country. He says the lawmakers are giving “legitimacy to sodomy” and wants them to stop issuing policies favoring gays.
Shlomo Beizri of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party addressed these controversial comments in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament).
Israel has passed a number of laws decriminalizing homosexuality. It passed its first law in 1988 and since then has passed many laws recognizing gay rights.
After the recent earthquakes in Israel (two of them last week and four more in November and December last year), Beizri is blaming the parliament for the cause of the earthquakes.
He said the tremors had been caused by the lawmaking that gave “legitimacy to sodomy”.
He was addressing these comments when a committee was set up at Knesset to discuss the country’s readiness for earthquakes.
He then asked the lawmakers to stop "passing legislation on how to encourage homosexual activity in the state of Israel, which anyway brings about earthquakes".
Israel recently has granted inheritance rights to gay couples and also recognizes same-sex marriages performed abroad. And last week, the Israel’s attorney general passed laws allowing same sex couples to adopt babies.
Earthquakes are part of nature for millions of years even before mankind was born. Tremors occurs at other planets as well where there are no humans. So the MP is better off going back to school and learning science or spending a little time on Google Search or Wikipedia will help him learn more about earthquakes.
Do you agree with Beizri’s comments?

Nope, don't agree with that guy's comments at all. They're ludicrous and ignorant, and especially hurtful to the queer communities in Israel. What a moronic thing to say? What's next, gay culture causes global warming too?

This guy is in good company. There are plenty of nutcases in the US who agree with him.

Goes to show that idiocy can be found in any country.

@ Sue D.Goes to show that idiocy can be found in any country. That is most certainly true, and it does not have to be religious either. In the UK, the health system, which is essentially bankrupt, is paying for people's homeopathic treatments, treatments which have been shown since their creation more than 200 years ago, not to work.

Unreal. They cannot afford to pay fro surgeries, cannot limit the wait time for people with time sensitive ailments that could be life threatening and yet they can afford to fund "homeopathic treatments"?
HEH

I guess the Israeli Prime Minister is wanting the world to KNOW how much of an idiot he really is!
I guess hurricaines and tornadoes have homosexual ties too? The SOUTH IS BURNING!!!! LOL!

This guy is kidding, right? (I know he's not!) That's just absurd...I wonder how many people have been walking around behind him snickering at him because of this foolishness?

I'm not sure how we go from homosexual to homeopathic, but...
Amazing that we can't just believe in geology and tectonic shifts and stuff...

You would think he would at least have a back up to his statement like, the earth quakes happened on this date, and this date is when the legislation was signed... blah blah blah...
I am pretty surprised by a remark like that comming from anyone, especially without a bit to back it up. I mean seriously you would have to have some coorilation, but he successfully looked like even more of an idiot by making a bigoted statement and not even having a crutch. The statement was bad enough. If I were gays in Israel I would have somethign to say about that.
Allowing gays to choose to live as they wish is not a sin. God wants people to make their own choices. This isn't the Old Testament anymore, there is a new covenant. I doubt God is going to do the whole fire from they sky and earthquake trick anymore. At least that is what I have heard.. ya know rumor has it.
Unfrikken real...

HEH Indeed. It is one of the subjects of Richard Dawkins' documentary "The Enemies of Reason". Isn't it totally hair-raising?

Unfrikken real... However, in the new covenant, gays are still hated, slavery is still condoned... the morality of the new testament may be somewhat less bloody than that of the old, but it remains astonishingly cruel.
And the logic of it all. A God who created the universe and who is constantly watching every single of billions upon billions of creatures, would actually be offended by two of these creatures having sex in a certain way? It would be tremendously funny, if the sad truth were not that some people actually believes these tales.

@ Samantha A. TorrenceYou would think he would at least have a back up to his statement like, the earth quakes happened on this date, and this date is when the legislation was signed... blah blah blah... Why? These people believe in the Bible. They don't need to waste time with such sordid things as causality, evidence... They just know it's true, because they know it's true, because they know it's true, because it's in the Bible.

Samantha, I have to agree with you 100%! Freedom of the human will (choices) is just that-we are all fallable in many ways.
GOD doesn't condemn / punish gays, that is a genetic predisposition in my opinion. They aren't different or subhuman. GOD loves all of HIS people!
Hate and rage and violence on a senseless level, spewing racial slurs at peaceful groups.....I suppose that's an appropriate response to what israel's high and mighty man deems a 'sin'?
Pot callin' ye ol kettle black, me thinks! :-)
