Alexis Goggins is a tiny hero. The 7-year-old Detroit child took two bullets that were meant for her mother Seliethia Parker. The child was shot on Dec. 2, 2007 by Calvin Tillie, her mother's former boyfriend.
Tillie jumped inside a SUV that the mother and daughter were getting a ride from a friend were in. At gunpoint he forced the group to drive on. Parker's friend stopped at a local gas station under the premise of needing gas to call 911.
Inside the car Tillie was about to open fire on Parker when young
Alexis jumped into her mother's arms from the back seat.
Don't hurt my mother!"
Parker was shot twice but her tiny child had six bullet wounds when the smoke cleared. One of those took away her right eye. She spent more than two months in hospital healing from her wounds and the six surgeries she needed to survive.
Young Alexis was learning disabled prior to the shooting. For that reason it may never be known if she knew what she was doing when she leaped into her mother's arms. Parker knows that her daughter's actions probably saved her life.
Tillie has been charged with two counts of assault with the intent to commit murder.
The family of the tiny hero has received more than 200 letters since the attack from well wishers. She also has a $30,000 trust fund set up through her school.
For now the youngster is at home returning to the hospital twice a week for physical therapy.
