Sexual Performance Pills Cause Prostate Cancer Within Months

Doctors have found that some popular herbal supplements have caused advanced prostate cancer in at least two men within months of taking the drug. They have since filed a report with the FDA to have these products removed from the market.

MSNBC reports that herbal supplements caused advanced prostate cancer in two men seeking to increase sexual performance and grow bigger muscles. U.S. doctors said that many of the supplements marketed as safe and natural contain unknown and potentially dangerous ingredients. They also noted that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have little authority to regulate these types of supplements. Chairman of urology at the University of Texas Southwestern medical school, Dr. Claus Roehrborn, said in a statement,

Physicians need to ask their patients not only about the prescription drugs they may be taking, but — perhaps even more importantly — about the over-the-counter drugs and supplements, which may have a profound impact on certain health conditions.

Roehrborn’s team became concerned about these herbal/hormonal dietary supplements, or HHDS's, after two men developed aggressive and incurable prostate cancer within months of taking the same supplement. After analyzing the herbal product, which they did not name for legal reasons, they found that it contained two hormones — testosterone and estradiol. When they tested it on tumor cells in the lab, they found that it fueled the growth of prostate cancer cells more potently than testosterone alone, they reported in the journal Clinical Cancer Research.

We filed an adverse event report with the FDA who issued a warning letter. The manufacturer responded by removing this HHDS product from the market,

the researchers wrote.

Individuals use HHDS for self-improvement, failure or distrust of conventional medicine, and because they believe that, these natural products are safe and drug-free,

they wrote. While searching through websites that promote these herbal products, researchers found that they promised

fountain of youth, maintenance of a youthful heart, relief of stress, and improvements in mood disturbances, stamina, energy, strength and virility.
