By KJ Mullins     Feb 13, 2008 in Health
Michael Futi of Tafuna, American Samoa died Friday in a locked room at Honolulu International Airport. The infant was 14 days old and on route to hospital for heart surgery when he, his mothers and a nurse were detained at the airport.
It isn't clear why immigration officials detained the three putting them in a locked room. The infant went into respiratory failure while in the customs office. The police give his time of death as 5:50 a.m. Paramedics were called 15 minutes after the infant died.
The family had traveled to Honolulu for heart surgery on Hawaiian Airlines. The flight arrived at 5:30 am.
The family plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
