Frank Oresnik has one reliable 1991 Chevrolet Silverado; "the old girl" just passed the one-million-mile mark. Recent news stories told how Orsenik had only 1,200 miles to go before he made history.
Oresnik bought the
truck in 1996 for his business of distributing seafood and steaks in the upper Midwest. The truck only had 41,000 miles when he purchased it.
He says he has had his oil changed nearly 300 times. He credits regular maintenance with helping the truck run so long.
It's had so many changes that the oil pan drain plug had to be re threaded several times, he said, and "you never hear of that."
He passed the one-million-mile mark on Friday in southeastern Wisconsin while on his way home to Catawba, located about an hour west of Rhinelander.
CBS had been with him earlier in the day and film crews from Chevrolet's public relations and advertising departments were on the road with Oresnik to capture the history-making milestone.
"I wont say it was relief ... it was exhilarating," Oresnik said later during a stop in Gresham where he has one of his longtime customers. "This truck has been so dependable over the years."
Now that the truck is famous for making million-mile history, GM and Shell Oil have showed interest in buying it from Oresnik.
