Democrats Plan Attack On GOP Frontrunner McCain

As John McCain seems to be the clear nominee of the Republican Party, the Democrats have not hesitated in collecting things about him to use as possible ammunition for the general election. But, McCain himself has provided the ammunition in more than a few instances.

One point was the late rising economy last year as an issue for voters. During the New Hampshire primary, McCain delivered powerful ammunition in the form of a proverbial grenade that still had the pin.

“The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should,” McCain said. He added: “I’ve got Greenspan’s book.”

These would not be the only words that can possibly bite McCain in November.

McCain’s lengthy voting record and his primary season provide a good source for opposition researchers. Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee Chairman is already on the move to redefine John McCain.

Dean had called McCain “a media darling” along with warning that McCain’s promising nothing more but a third George W. Bush term. The toughest task would make those criticisms stick with McCain.

Mitt Romney, McCain’s former rival for the GOP nomination has tried but failed. A barrage from conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh and a many other high-profile conservatives also did not succeed in putting a wrench in McCain’s candidacy momentum.

“The trick is to get him on the flip-flops and not let him get back to the center where he can be a real force,” explained Doug Schoen, former adviser to former US President Bill Clinton. He said that Democrats must act quickly.

A flip-flop assault has appeal due to that it can undermine McCain’s reputation for taking tough stances and sticking with them.

Former Vice President Al Gore adviser, Carter Eskrew explained it as: “Go right after his strengths. Take the Straight Talk Express and push it off the rails.”
