Moroccan authorities arrested a man Wednesday for impersonating Morocco’s prince on the popular social-networking site Facebook. The prince is the younger brother of the Morocco’s King.
CNN reported that an engineer in Morocco was arrested by the royal authorities for
stealing the identity of the younger brother of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, Prince Moulay Rachid, and posting his credentials on Facebook.
CNN said the prince was a victim of identity theft, but in this case the man stole his name only and posted it on Facebook, according to TechCrunch.
The authorities arrested Fouad Mourtada, 26, in Casablanca for “villainous practices” in connection with the theft of Prince Moulay Rachid’s identity.
Techcrunch
reported that if you are going to pretend to be royalty to meet girls on Facebook, you should do it from somewhere other than where the royalty being impersonated has legal jurisdiction.
The authorities didn’t release additional details about the arrest. They said the prince and the king or any of the royal family members maintain a Facebook account or other websites. They provide information only via Morocco’s news agency.
Other pranksters have posted as Steve Ballmer, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates. But since Morocco is not a true democracy with draconian laws, making fun of royalty on Facebook is not a wise idea.
