article imageThe Demise of the 80GB PS3

By Aaron Robson     Feb 1, 2008 in Entertainment
Despite being told by official sources earlier on in the week, new information regarding the birth of the 160GB PS3 and the discontinuation of the 80GB have been brought to the attention of gamers.
The Rumours have been mostly true.
A reliable source from within the major US retailer GameStop has informed Gamesradar that supplies of the 80GB PS3's are no longer being replenished. The only units left are previously delivered units yet to be sold.
The informant has also been kind enough to mention that the PS3 won't be upgrading to the whopping 120GB everyone is expecting, but a large 160GB.
This can mean only one thing and from this point of the game (no pun intended) it is hard to tell if this is news to celebrate. If the 80GB discontinues, and the 160GB is brought forward to lead Sony to success, there is almost a guarantee in a price raise. But if there isn't a price raise, a lot of 80GB owners will have a bone to pick with Sony.
