Parents of college students everywhere will be elated to hear that The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg will host the "Sex Workers Art Show" on campus Feb. 4th. Virginia Commonwealth University will host the show the following day.
According the
William and Mary College President Gene Nichol the school will host the show on campus. He did request that the students find a venue off campus, but they indicated they were unable to do so.
President Nichol stated the show must go on, citing both First Amendment rights and the "defining traditions of openness that sustain universities".
The Sex Workers Art Show" consists of performances and monologues by strippers, prostitutes and other sex workers, with its goal being to "dispel the myth that (the performers) are anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses."
Virginia Commonwealth University will feature the show on February 5th, however the show will not be occurring on student grounds.
Rueban Rodriguez, associate vice provost and dean of student affairs at VCU stated that there two reasons for school officials' decision to not host the show on college grounds. Number one being that they had not received a request for a campus venue, and number two being that the show performers had violated their contract with the university last year.
Rodriguez declined to specify how the contract was violated.
One can only imagine.
And this is "higher education"? Please. Next they'll be offering degrees in stripping, hooking and the art of fellatio.
