Early data from exit polling, conducted for the Associated Press, of today's South Carolina Democratic Primary is in.. While who people voted for won't be released till all polls are closed, why people are voting is just as interesting.
The "WHY" landscape seems to have changed since the Democrat's only other competitive primary in New Hampshire on January 8th. Of three major concerns offered, half of all voters questioned said the most important issue of this campaign is the economy. Up almost 12 points from New Hampshire it is far and a way the leading concern among those voting today.
Health Care was a distant second with a quarter of the questioned electorate naming that as their most important issue. The War in Iraq weighed in third with one in five voters, down seven points from New Hampshire.
From a partial sample of 1,269 voters conducted by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International in 35 precincts in South Carolina's Democratic primary. Margin of sampling error plus or minus 4 percentage points.
