Op-Ed: Huckabee Directly Equates Homosexuality With Bestiality

by BoVandy.
At some point you'd think Mike Huckabee's views would be seen as so controversial, and ignorant that there's no way he could possibly be a contender for the nomination of one of America's two main political parties.
Especially now. In an interview with Beliefnet.com, a religious Web site, the Huckster has restated his view that the Constitution should be amended to be brought in line with God's will. He also directly equated homosexuality with bestiality.

Huckster, in elaborating on his views that the Constitution should be subjected to Biblical standards, had just wrapped up a discussion of the fact that marriage has meant "a man and a woman in a relationship for life." With this context firmly established, this exchange followed:

AUTHOR: Is it your goal to bring the Constitution into strict conformity with the Bible? Some people would consider that a kind of dangerous undertaking, particularly given the variety of biblical interpretations.

HUCKABEE: Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal. Again, once we change the definition, the door is open to change it again. I think the radical position is to make a change in what’s been historic.

Not only is this a strawman argument that has been made time and time again by those on the right who oppose gay marriage, but Huckabee fails to mention where in the constitution a marriage between a man and a woman is explicitly endorsed, let alone a marriage between a man and a horse.

Let's not tiptoe around this, by constantly comparing gay sex to bestiality, the religious right is not too delicately implying that homosexuals are something less than human. People actually want someone with those views representing the country?

Huckabee's recent run of ridiculous comments begs a couple of questions

Why is it so many right wing politicians are so gung-ho about having one of the greatest documents in the history of the world endorse such an ugly bigotry?

And why is it that the MSM still hasn't really covered Huckabee's comments, from three days ago?

Why is Huckabee continuing to get a free pass on bigoted comments like this?
